Martha Bentzen Family Aide Fund

Bentzen

Martha H. Bentzen was born on March 6, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from DePauw University in 1960 with a major in early education. She married Michael Bentzen in August 1960. They moved to Rockville, MD, in 1962, where she taught 2nd grade for five years. They had three children and in 1971 she became a preschool volunteer parent and served as a teacher and director from 1972 to 1987. In 1990 she became a teacher and director at Rockville Community Nursery School until 2000. She loved working with four-year-old children and her lifetime friends from the staff. The Director of RCNS wrote β€œIn each of her responsibilities, Mrs. Bentzen has excelled. She is always positive, upbeat, nurturing, yet firm when necessary.”

Martha dedicated many years serving as an educator in Montgomery County, MD, preschools. She believed both parents and children benefit by learning together in the preschool years and believed that outdoor play is a very important part.

Her loving family is pleased to have reconstructed the RCNS playground and to establish scholarships both in memorial of her love and passion for life and of her skill as a teacher and administrator.
