Welcome to Rockville Community Nursery School
RCNS was founded in 1964. We are a co-operative parent-owned, non-sectarian preschool offering a 3-hour morning program for children ages 2-5, an extended day program, as well as a parent/child program for children turning 2 by January 31st. We are located near Montgomery College in Rockville on the beautiful Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville campus.
Our Curriculum
Our program balances teacher-planned and child-initiated learning, emphasizing responsiveness to children’s strengths, interests, needs, and learning styles using the nationally-known, play-based Creative Curriculum. Our teachers carefully plan and maintain balance between freedom and guidance, group and individual activities, and active and quiet learning for each child. Children happily attain the varied social, emotional, and academic skills needed for Kindergarten and beyond.
Our Community
As a cooperative preschool, RCNS gives parents the unique opportunity to participate in the classroom, assisting teachers on a rotating basis in daily activities. Parents also serve the school in administrative positions and work together to offer children a nurturing and positive first school experience.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to help children develop an interest and joy in learning. We believe in the value, dignity and self-worth of each child and treat all children as individuals. We strive to help children develop emotionally and intellectually to the fullest extent while also giving them the opportunity to build social skills by working and playing with classmates, parents and teachers.
